State Representative Paul Holvey

State Representative Paul Holvey is currently employed as a representative for The Pacific Northwest Carpenters – part of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.

Representative Holvey began as a carpentry apprentice before becoming a journeyman in the carpenters union, and has worked for various contractors in Oregon, Washington, California and Alaska as a carpenter, foreman and project superintendent. Holvey has had an Oregon license in real estate sales and appraisal, and a contractor license in construction.

Representative Holvey attended undergraduate studies at Lane Community College, Central Washington University, and the University of Oregon. He also received a certificate from the University of Oregon Labor Education and Research Center and professional training in labor-management relations.

Representative Holvey currently serves as Chair of the Siuslaw National Forest Resource Advisory Committee, Chair of the Office of Administrative Hearings Oversight Committee, and is a delegate from the Oregon State Legislature to the Pacific Northwest Economic Region.

Previously, he has served on a joint apprenticeship and training Committee for the Oregon-SW Washington Carpenters and as a Board Member of the former Lane Business Education Compact. Additionally, Rep. Holvey served as the Secretary/Treasurer of Carpenters Local #1273 in Eugene from 1997-2004, served on the Lane Community College Citizen Advisory Committee, and was the first Vice-President of the Lane County Labor Council.

Representative Holvey has been recognized by the Oregon State Apprenticeship and Training Council for Meritorious Service, received a Certificate of Recognition from the Chair of the Lane County Board of Commissioners, received an award from the Eugene Human Rights Commission in recognition for his community contributions, and was recognized by the Oregon Recreation and Parks Association for his legislative advocacy. He has also been recognized by the Oregon Nurses Association and the Humane Society.

Representative Holvey was originally appointed to House District 8 by the Lane County Board of Commissioners in January 2004, and was elected to office in November 2004.

At the beginning of the 2007 session Representative Holvey was appointed to Chair the newly-created House Committee on Consumer Protection. In that capacity, Representative Holvey is proud to have championed many important bills, including capping payday loans, bringing an end to mortgage foreclosure rescue scams, and protecting children from dangerous products.

Also during his time serving in the legislature Representative Holvey has championed legislation including, expanding solar technology, assisting domestic violence victims with unemployment insurance needs, helping small businesses with licensing, implementing the Forest Legacy program in Oregon, ensuring safety in children’s products, enacting homeowner mortgage protections, and ending field burning in the Willamette Valley.

Previously, Representative Holvey has served as Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Elections and Rules and Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Business and Labor.

He currently serves as Chair of the House Committee on Consumer Protection and Government Accountability, as well as being a member of House Committee on Business and Labor, Subcommittee on Workforce Development, and House Committee on Sustainability and Economic Development. He looks forward to continuing his service to House District 8.

Representative Holvey lives in south Eugene with his wife Terrie and his three Yorkshire Terriers. His son, Justin, and daughter in-law, Carla, are both currently serving in the US Army and have a daughter named Natalie.
