Treasurer Ted Wheeler

Ted Wheeler was appointed as Oregon's 28th State Treasurer on March 9, 2010 by Gov. Ted Kulongoski and was sworn into office on March 11, 2010. He was appointed to finish the term of former Treasurer Ben Westlund, who died of cancer on March 7, 2010 at the age of 60.

At the time of his appointment, Wheeler was the elected chairman and chief executive officer of Multnomah County, Oregon's most populous county. He won election in 2006 with 70 percent of the vote.

Before entering elected office, Wheeler worked in the financial services industry, and his career has included posts at Bank of America and Copper Mountain Trust, where he was a senior manager.

Wheeler has been an active and longtime volunteer leader of several community organizations including Neighborhood House, the Boy Scouts of America, the Oregon Sports Authority and served as an overnight shelter host with the Goose Hollow Family Shelter for many years. He was the founder of Walk for the Wildwood, and was a founding committee member for the Heron Point Wetlands Rehabilitation Project.

He is a graduate of Portland's Lincoln High School. He earned a BA degree in Economics from Stanford University, an MBA from Columbia University and a Masters in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Wheeler loves endurance sports, and is a veteran of three expeditions to Mt. Everest, which he successfully summited in 2002. He snow-shoed to the North Pole with his wife and twice completed the Ironman Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii.

He lives in Southwest Portland with his wife Katrina and their daughter Quinnlan.
